The A.I.D.A.A. was founded in 1920 under the name o f Italian Association of Aerotechnics (“Associazione Italiana di Aerotecnica”). After the Royal Aeronautical Society, the A.I.D.A.A. is the oldest scientific aeronautical society in the world. The association was renamed in 1969 after its merger with the Italian Rocket Association (“Associ
azione Italiana Razzi”).
The society promotes the dissemination of aerospace knowledge and expertise.
The society is a cultural association bringing those who are interested the technical and scientific activities of aeronautics and space.
The society brings together students, amateurs, professionals, companies and institutions involved or interested in aerospace activities.

The A.I.D.A.A. is founded member of CEAS - Council of European Aerospace Societies, IAF -International Astronautical Federation and ICAS - International Council of Aeronautical Sciences.
The society’s eight local branches allow for the coverage of about the total Italian territory.

Every two years, the association holds a National Congress (“Congresso Nazionale”) where specialists present the latest research results of the Italian aeronautics and space sectors.
The association also cooperates in the organization of IAF, CEAS and ICAS conferences.

The A.I.D.A.A publishes the “Aerotecnica Missili e Spazio” journal covering scientific and technical issues. It compiles scientific papers and articles but also summarizes and plans the activities of the society.
